Expectations
Excuses - Unexcused absences from participation in Physical Education are not allowed. Everyone takes Physical Education unless a request signed by your doctor excuses you. The doctor's request must state the specific reason and length of time the excuse is valid. You should present this to the school nurse and Physical Education teacher before you will be excused from class. Excuses from parents will be honored for one day only per semester. Absences or an excuse for more than one period requires a doctor's note.
Make-ups Make up classes will be offered to those students with excessive absences, low test scores or missing participation points. PE make up days will be posted on the gymnasium bulletin boards.
Gym Clothing - Students may purchase PE attire with check, cash, or money order. Make checks payable to Hoyt Middle School. It is recommended that your shirt and shorts be clearly marked with your name immediately after purchase. Sweatshirts and warm up outfits for the fall and spring months are encouraged.
Socks and tennis shoes
Deodorant (in plastic container)
Grades - You will be graded on the following four aspects: Preparation (dressing for class in your PE clothes), Participation, Skills Test, and Written Test. Other variables are included within these general grading areas such as attitude, cooperation, respect, discipline and improvement. A point scale will also be included. The student can come to PE make up to earn points back in order to raise their grade. Students are excused from class for funerals or any school related activity.
